FAQ’s about Blockout Blinds
What is the difference between a blockout and blackout blind?
The term Blockout blind is commonly used for blind materials that prevent the transmittance of light, light can still entre the room through gaps around and through the blind depending on the style chosen. The term blackout blind is used for blinds that have additional side tracks, pelmets and blockout blind material, blackout blinds stop all light entering your room.
How do I clean my blind?
Should your covering require cleaning, gently wiping it with a damp cloth and mild soapy water solution should be sufficient.
What is the best light control option?
We have a large range of dual blind options available from roller, roman or our very popular horizon Thermacell blind. All allow you to let light flow into the room whilst keeping the prying eyes of your neighbours at bay. Then at night simply lower the blockout blind for privacy.

In situations where you want the transmittance of light prevented completely, blockout roller blinds are the answer. The fabric used prevents light from passing through, although it may still be visible through the small gaps either side of the panel. To completely block light, a blackout option will better meet your needs. It comes with sidetracks, pelmets and blackout blind material to ensure that no light is able to pass into or out of the room they have been installed in.
Where to Use
Although these blinds can be used in any room, there are some areas where they are considered more beneficial. In particular, we recommend block out blinds for bedrooms and nurseries, as they ensure that the room is as dark as possible for a more restful sleep. Bedroom blackout blinds are ideal if you have children who nap during the day or if you do shift work. Blackout roller blinds are also ideal for theatre rooms where darkness really adds to the atmosphere.
Caring for your Blinds
You will find that caring for block out blinds for windows is actually fairly simple, although you should follow the instructions we have provided for the specific type of blind you have selected (ie vertical). Generally, however, a blind that requires cleaning can be wiped with a damp cloth and mild soapy water solution. It is important that you also regularly dust the panels to keep them looking their best – giving them a quick run over when you dust or vacuum the rest of the house will be sufficient.
