There are a few different kinds of awnings in Canberra that you could choose to have installed at your home, the most popular being retractable (which are only opened up when required) and non-retractable (which are much more permanent). If you ever need to remove an awning, perhaps to repair or clean it, it is important that you do so correctly to prevent damage.
Step 1: Turn the lever that retracts the awning in Canberra until it is in the fully closed position. Place a ladder at either end of the panel; this will give you access to the bolts that secure it to your home.
Step 2: Using a wrench or socket set, unscrew the bolts that secure the brackets of the top railing to the building. Make sure that you hold the awning in place, as it may fall forwards as you do this.
Step 3: Lower the top rail to remove it if there aren’t support arms that connect it to the bottom of the house. If the rail does have support arms, slowly lower the top forwards until it rests against the ground and remove the bottom rail.
Step 1: Pull apart the lining or remove any rope that holds the panel onto the metal or wood frame. It is also not unheard of for a combination of both methods to be used for added security.
Step 2: Dig a hole around the vertical posts that support the front of the awning in Canberra. If the poles go into a concrete slab, use a socket and ratchet to unscrew the bolts holding them down.
Step 3: Unscrew the bolts that secure the horizontal joists to your house. The framing can then be disconnected from the ground and the building; flip it over and place it on the ground.
Step 4: To take the frame apart, remove the brackets that secure each piece together. You will need a socket and ratchet if it’s metal, but you may need a screwdriver if it’s timber.
Once you have removed an awning in Canberra, you can do with it whatever you like. Just keep in mind that, if you aren’t planning on reinstalling the awning or replacing it with a new one, you will need to fill in the resulting holes with acrylic silicone caulk. This will prevent moisture from getting into the walls of your home, which can cause all sorts of problems.
